Sen. Richard Blumenthal, D-Conn., said Friday that the payment made by President Donald Trump's lawyer to Stormy Daniels is "profoundly" important to the Russia investigation.
"It changes the investigation very profoundly because it provides more evidence of criminal intent. The issue here is bigger than just campaign finance violations. It’s bigger than the Ethics in Government Act," Blumenthal said on CNN.
Rudy Giuliani, a recent addition to the president's legal team, admitted this week that that Trump repaid his attorney, Michael Cohen, for the money used to pay Daniels. Trump had not previously revealed that he repaid Cohen, and said in the past the he did not know about it. Giuliani said that Trump did not know the true nature of the payment he made to Cohen until recently.
"The payment of those funds and the hiding of it, the concealing of it — and the American people have the right to know what the truth is — clearly indicates that there is more in the way of facts that he is trying to hide. Facts about obstruction of justice," Blumenthal added.
