Republican lawmakers in the Senate are planning to use the so-called skinny repeal bill to defund Planned Parenthood for one year, according to congressional aides and lobbyists in a report by The Hill.
The Hill's sources added that the repeal of Obamacare's individual and employer insurance mandates also would be included in the bill.
"The so-called skinny repeal would have a devastating impact on healthcare in this country," said Dawn Laguens, Planned Parenthood executive vice president, per The Hill. "Beyond blocking people from coming to Planned Parenthood, it would increase premiums by 20 percent and take away coverage for 16 million people.
"The cruel irony is that Republicans are selling the 'skinny repeal' as giving individuals more choice and freedom, while the Planned Parenthood provision would deny women the choice or freedom to go to the provider they trust."
Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., slammed the "skinny repeal" Wednesday.
"Skinny repeal is equal to full repeal . . . it's a Trojan horse," Schumer said.
Senate Republicans are planning to vote on the bill late Thursday or early Friday, The Hill report said.
