President Donald Trump's administration sent a "troubling message" to Alaska's two Republican senators — Lisa Murkowski had better fall in line with her healthcare vote, or else, the Alaska Dispatch News reported.
Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke called both Alaska Sens. Murkowski and Dan Sullivan on Wednesday, in essence threatening to pull federal support for the state if Murkowski does not support Senate legislation to repeal, replace — or both on Obamacare, ADN reported.
It was a "troubling message," Sullivan told ADN.
"I fear that the strong economic growth, pro-energy, pro-mining, pro-jobs, and personnel from Alaska who are part of those policies are going to stop," Sullivan told ADN.
Murkowski was one of two senators Tuesday who voted against proceeding with the Senate's legislation du jour "because I didn't think we were ready for the debate."
Trump singled out Murkowski in a tweet early Wednesday, presaging Zinke's call.
Though Murkowski had not yet commented on Zinke's threat, she did respond to Trump's tweet to MSNBC on Wednesday.
"We're here to govern," Murkowski told MSNBC. "We're here to legislate. We're here to represent the people who sent us here. And so every day shouldn't be about campaigning. Every day shouldn't be about winning elections.
"How about just doing a little bit of governing around here? That's what I'm here for."
