When it comes to the nation's healthcare system, Rep. Steny Hoyer, D-Md., said the "first objective" of House Democrats was to fix Obamacare, CNN reported Saturday.
This is at variance with Independent Sen. Bernie Sanders of Vermont, as well as several Democratic senators who are co-sponsoring a bill with him, that would create a single payer healthcare system. Sanders is expected to introduce the healthcare legislation on Wednesday.
Senate Democratic co-sponsors for Sanders' bill include Sens. Kamala Harris of California, Cory Booker of New Jersey, Kirstin Gillibrand of New York and Al Franken of Minnesota.
Hoyer, who is the number two Democrat in the House, said the single payer system had "significant administrative issues," but that he was working with House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi on "preserving the (Affordable Care Act) and making it work better." He explained the party was united in providing "access for Americans to offer quality, affordable healthcare."
