Pete King: Nothing 'Even Remotely Impeachable' in Transcript

The telephone call between President Donald Trump and the president of Ukraine did not pose a threat to national security, and there was nothing "even remotely impeachable," because Trump was talking about the genesis of the 2016 election investigation, not investigating Vice President Joe Biden and his son Biden, Rep. Pete King said Wednesday

"This is an investigation into why the old Mueller investigation, the FBI investigation, started back in 2016," the New York Republican told Fox News' "Outnumbered Overtime." "There was information leaked from the Ukraine against candidate Trump at the time."

King's comments echoed a tweet he'd posted saying that "nothing remotely impeachable in the transcript. Ukrainian President brought up Giuliani before @POTUS Trump mentioned Biden. No quid pro quo. Pursuing impeachment is indefensible."

After the Ukraine president brought up the name of Trump's attorney Rudy Giuliani, King continued, Trump was "prompted to talk about the allegations made about Joe Biden. To me, whether or not it will be a component of the campaign is almost secondary."

King added that it was a "legitimate question" for Trump to ask about Biden's son, Hunter, but "he didn't dwell on it other than those few sentences. It wasn't the beginning or the end of the conversation, and it was the president of Ukraine that brought up Giuliani's name."

The Trump administration was the one to give military aid to Ukraine, when President Barack Obama didn't give anything, said King.

Meanwhile, a Washington Post opinion piece pointing out that three Democratic senators wrote a letter in May to Ukraine's prosecutor general in May asking to keep investigations open vital to special counsel Robert Mueller's case show the "total hypocrisy of the Democrats," said King.

"They thought it was perfectly appropriate to intervene and in fact threaten the Ukrainian government when it came to helping the Mueller investigation, which would hurt President Trump, but now somehow it's wrong for the president to ask questions about Joe Biden," said King.
