Democratic Rep. Ted Lieu Saturday urged Republicans to trust special counsel Robert Mueller, FBI Director Christopher Wray, and Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, as the the three are also Republicans as well.
Mueller's probe into Russian interference in the 2016 election is led by Rosenstein, "a Republican appointed twice by GOP presidents; Mueller, "a Republican and Bronze Star recipient; and Wray "a Republican who donated $39K to GOP candidates," the California Republican said on Twitter. "I trust these 3 Republicans. The GOP should too."
The tweet was made when Lieu retweeted an Associated Press article shared online by the Georgetown Law School about a letter signed by 22 U.S. attorneys, from both parties, urging President Donald Trump to allow Mueller and his team continue its investigation without "fear of reprisal."
Lieu's comments come after he condemned, on the House floor, congressional Republicans and Trump administration officials for working to create doubt about the Justice Department, the FBI, and about Mueller and his team's investigators.
Wednesday, Lieu warned that Trump could be following in the footsteps of late President Richard Nixon should he decide to fire Mueller, reports The Hill. "If Donald Trump wants to take the first footsteps of Richard Nixon, he's certainly welcome to try," Lieu said. "But it will not end well for him."
Meanwhile, the White House has continued to deny that Trump is considering ordering officials to fire Mueller.
