New Poll Shows Northam in the Lead for Virginia Governor

Democrat Ralph Northam is favored by 47 percent of voters, while Republican Ed Gillespie is backed by 41 percent in the race for Virginia governor, a new poll by the Wason Center for Public Policy at Christopher Newport University reveals.

Last week, a Washington Post-Schar School poll had Northam, the current lieutenant governor, backed by 53 percent of voters and Gillespie by 40 percent.

The latest poll, conducted Oct. 2 to 6, surveyed 928 registered voters. The poll has a plus or minus 4.3 percent margin of error.
