Virginia Democratic Gov. Ralph Northam's approval rating dropped nearly 20 points in the wake of a racial controversy that might force him to resign.
Photos on Northam's page of his medical school yearbook that showed two people, one in blackface and another in a Ku Klux Klan outfit, appeared in the media Friday. Northam initially confirmed he was one of the people in the photo, although he later changed his story to say he was not.
According to a Morning Consult survey, Northam's approval rating fell from 48 percent before the controversy to 29 percent. His disapproval rating shot up from 26 percent to 48 percent.
His net approval rating plummeted by 41 points.
Northam has resisted calls to resign despite many from both sides of the aisle saying he should step down.
