Preet Bharara, a former U.S. attorney who was fired by the Trump administration earlier this month, has landed a new job teaching at the NYU School of Law.
Bharara will start at NYU on April 1 as a distinguished scholar in residence, the school announced.
"I am honored to join the NYU School of Law, one of the great educational institutions in America, and I welcome the chance to contribute in such a thoughtful setting," Bharara said.
"I am thrilled for this opportunity to continue addressing the issues I so deeply care about — criminal and social justice, honest government, national security, civil rights, and corporate accountability, to name a few."
Bharara was appointed by former President Barack Obama to serve the Southern District of New York. On March 11, President Donald Trump's Department of Justice fired him.
Normally when a new president takes office, he asks for the resignations of many U.S. attorneys so he can staff the system with his own people. The day before Bharara's dismissal, the DOJ asked the remaining 46 Obama-era U.S. attorneys to step down.
A report last week claimed Bharara's office had been investigating Health and Human Services Secretary Tom Price at the time he was fired. Price, who served in the House from 2005 until he was sworn into Trump's cabinet last month, made several stock market trades that some felt were inappropriate because he was working on legislation that involved those companies.
