Former U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara jabbed President Donald Trump for claiming “attorney-client privilege is dead.”
Trump had made his comments in a Tuesday morning tweet, less than 24 hours after FBI agents raided the office and hotel room of his personal lawyer Michael Cohen.
Agents seized records relating to Cohen’s payments to adult-firm star Stormy Daniels. Stephen Ryan, Cohen’s attorney, said prosecutors obtained a search warrant after a referral “in part” from special counsel Robert Mueller, The Hill reported.
Bharara took to Twitter to answer Trump’s criticism.
The Hill, citing the American Bar Association, reported the crime-fraud exception is not privileged if it “involves communications in furtherance of a contemplated or ongoing crime or fraud.”
