Voters are nearly evenly split on the issue of President Donald Trump's mental stability, with 45 percent saying he is and 47 percent believing he's not, according to the latest Quinnipiac University poll.

More of the results, according to Quinnipiac:

  • 46 percent of independents think Trump is mentally stable.
  • 45 percent of independents think Trump is mentally unstable.
  • 53 percent of men think he's stable.
  • 53 percent of women — 50 percent white — say he's unstable.
  • 71 percent of blacks say he's unstable.
  • 50 percent of Hispanics say he's unstable.

Trump's approval rating is at 38 percent, with 57 percent disapproving of his job performance, according to Quinnipiac.

"President Donald Trump can't seem to improve his approval rating, perhaps because of the troubling fact that half of the voters we spoke to think he is mentally unstable," said Tim Malloy, assistant director of the Quinnipiac University poll.

Further, 62 percent of those surveyed said they are not inclined to re-elect Trump vs. 34 percent who said they would vote for him again.

Those results:

  • 78 percent of Republicans said they are inclined to vote for Trump again.
  • 18 percent of Republicans said they would not for him again.
  • 63 percent of Independents are not inclined to vote for Trump again.
  • 97 percent of blacks are not inclined to vote for Trump again.
  • 73 percent of Hispanics not inclined.

Further, outside of Republicans, the only two sub-groups inclined to vote for Trump again are white voters without college degrees (52 percent) and white men (49 percent).

Also, 58 percent overall thought Trump's "s***hole" comments from last week were racist vs. 35 percent who said they weren't.

Quinnipiac University surveyed 1,212 voters from Jan. 12-16 nationwide with a margin of error of 3.4 percentage points.
