Americans believe the most important issue for President Donald Trump and Congress to address this year is immigration, the latest CBS News poll reveals.

The results:

  • Immigration: 15 percent.
  • The economy and jobs: 13 percent.
  • Health care: 11 percent.

Three out of four Republicans who took the poll believe that not enough is being done to make sure foreigners are not security problems.

In other results:

  • Six out of 10 support a path to citizenship for illegal immigrants already in the U.S.
  • 23 percent want them to leave the U.S.
  • 13 percent believe they should stay but not apply for citizenship.

Across party lines:

  • 9 percent of Democrats believe they should be allowed to stay and apply for citizenship.
  • 60 percent of independents agree.
  • 43 percent of Republicans would require them to leave the U.S.

Twenty percent of those who took the poll believe that illegal immigrants are more likely to commit crimes than American citizens.

Breaking that result down by party shows that more Republicans believe that fact than Democrats.

  • Republicans: 38 percent.
  • Democrats: 9 percent.

The poll was conducted Feb. 17-21, 2017 among a random sampling of 1,280 adults around the U.S., CBS News reports.
