The GOP city commissioner in Philadelphia who is responsible for counting votes there told CBS News' “Sixty Minutes” that people are making death threats to his staff since the count started last week.

"From the inside looking out, it feels all very deranged," Al Schmidt said during an interview that aired on Sunday. "At the end of the day, we are counting eligible votes, cast by voters. The controversy surrounding it is something I don't understand,” saying people are "coming up with all sorts of crazy stuff" that there is fraud and cheating that is not true.

He said that the death threats came in the form of “calls to our offices reminding us that this is what the Second Amendment is for. People like us.”

As the first results were counted, Trump opened up a large lead on Democrat Joe Biden in Pennsylvania, which forbids mail-in ballots from being counted before Election Day, according to The Hill. But once the mail-in votes started being counted in the following days, the state swung toward Biden, who overtook the president on Friday.

Trump accused Philadelphia of widespread voter fraud in favor of Biden.

Schmidt said that "The real damage is not who wins or who gets elected. The real damage is how we all react to this process. So that at the end of the day we all have confidence that all the voices are heard and, win or lose, these are the people that we the people have elected to represent us."
