Former Tennessee Gov. Phil Bredesen appears to be closing in on Rep. Marsha Blackburn in the race for U.S. Senate, a new poll aligned with President Donald Trump reveals.
The Tennessean reports the poll, commissioned by the Committee to Defend the President, found 38 percent of those surveyed support Blackburn, a Republican and strong Trump supporter, while 35 percent favor Bredesen, a Democrat. Eleven percent are undecided.
In two previous polls commissioned by the same political action committee, Blackburn had a more comfortable lead. In December 2017, she was ahead of Bredesen by 9 percent. That lead was cut to 5 percent in February.
Amanda Head, a spokeswoman for the PAC which supports Blackburn, told The Tennessean that “the future is still looking bright" for her.
"We will do whatever it takes to defend President Trump’s agenda from left-wing attacks and help Marsha as she prepares to support our president in the Senate," she said.
Blackburn and Bredesen are vying for seat being vacated by GOP Sen. Bob Corker.
