House Speaker Nancy Pelosi on Thursday called for President Donald Trump's immediate removal from office through the 25th Amendment, a day after Wednesday's violent attack on the U.S. Capitol.

"Yesterday, the resident of the United States incited an armed insurrection against America," Pelosi told reporters at the U.S. Capitol, adding that Trump committed a "seditious act."

Pelosi also said she’s seeking the resignation of Capitol Police Chief Steven Sund and announced that  House Sergeant-at-Arms Paul Irving, another key security official, had already submitted his resignation. He reports directly to Pelosi, while Sund answers to the House and the Senate.
