George Papadopoulos' Fiancée: He's 'Very Loyal to His Country'

The fiancée of George Papadopoulos, the former campaign adviser for Donald Trump who pleaded guilty to lying to the FBI, said her fiancée was an important player in the Trump campaign.

"George is very loyal to his country. He is already on the right side of history. I think he will make a big difference," said Simona Mangiante in a ABC News interview that aired Friday.

The former adviser is cooperating with the special counsel's probe into Russian interference in the 2016 presidential campaign, and ABC News reported that his sentencing is set for January.

Mangiante said she chose to speak in public in response to claims about Papadopoulos. Trump tweeted that he was a "low level volunteer" and campaign adviser Michael Caputo said he was a "coffee boy," according to ABC News.

"First of all, I would love George to learn how to make a coffee, because it's absolutely out of his skills," Mangiante joked, according to ABC News.

Papadopoulos was "constantly" in communication with high-level campaign officials and organized meetings with "leaders all over the world," Mangiante said.

She said that she believed Papadopoulos would have a place in history as "the first domino" in the Russia investigation.

Papadopoulos's arrest, made when he got off an airplane in Washington, appeared to be a move designed to shock him about the seriousness of his predicament, experts told Politico.
