Former Las Vegas Mayor Oscar Goodman was coy when asked whether he prefers Republican Donald Trump or Democrat Hillary Clinton, but he did offer criticism of both a day before his city hosts the third and final presidential debate.
In an interview Tuesday on Fox News Channel's "Your World with Neil Cavuto," Goodman said he was leaning toward one candidate, but hedged on who it was.
The Trump on the campaign trail is a different person than he has seen in private meetings over the years, Goodman said. Trump owns a hotel in Vegas.
"I've had meetings with him, been in discussions with him and saw him as a very reasonable, seasoned guy," Goodman said, "and the one I'm seeing now is sort of like a third-world dictator who's ranting and raving."
"Sounds like you're leaning to Hillary," Cavuto said.
But Goodman protested.
"I want people who are truthful. There's nothing more important to me than a truthful, honest politician," he said.
Goodman backed former Maryland Gov. Martin O'Malley in the Democratic primaries, but said that support came from his longtime friendship with the man he calls "Marty." He said he has been friends with O'Malley since he was mayor of Baltimore.
Would Goodman vote for a third-party candidate, Cavuto asked.
"If I thought they could win," Goodman said.
Goodman, a former Democrat, has identified as independent since 2009.
