President Donald Trump has emboldened U.S. allies in the Middle East to empower Israel and not to give billions of dollars to America's enemies through his work with the historic peace agreement, State Department spokesperson Morgan Ortagus said Thursday.
"We certainly hope that every country in the region recognizes Israel," Ortagus said on Fox News' "Fox and Friends." "That's certainly the ultimate goal."
She noted that she was in the Middle East, Africa, and Sudan with Secretary of State Mike Pompeo working on the initiatives the president has set with the Middle East peace deal, "and it's quite an honor to be at the State Department, a part of historic diplomacy of seeing the first Arab and Israeli peace deal in 25 years. We certainly hope there is more to come."
She added that the face of the Middle East is changing, as there is younger leadership that is rising up in many areas, especially in the Gulf nations.
"These young Arabs are looking at the challenge of Israel and the Palestinian people from a different lens than people 30 and 40 years were looking (through)," said Ortagus. "We're trying to capitalize on that."
She added that she thinks its a "massive honor" for Trump to be nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize for the peace agreement, but the real victory is for the children of Israel.
"Young Israeli children will now grow up in a world where they can visit each other's country and grow up in a word of peace," said Ortagus. "The president has set out a peaceful coexistence between Muslims and between Jews and Christians in the Middle East and that is the greatest reward, far more than any prize given by man."
