Democrats should not fear President Donald Trump and his campaign style, former Democratic presidential nominee and Maryland governor Martin O’Malley told The Hill.

"The politics that Donald Trump practices, scapegoating from whole groups of people, are the classic tactics of fascism," O'Malley said.

"We have to call out the politics of fear – we need not be afraid, we cannot be afraid if we are to succeed.”

O’Malley last Thursday launched a new political organization, “Win Back Your State PAC,” to help Democratic candidates across the country. He has actively campaigned for local candidates around the country in 2017, visiting 21 states since last year’s election.

O’Malley has hinted he might run in 2020, but his interview with the Hill focused on his PAC and said there’s a sense of urgency for Democrats.

"I'm very excited about 2018," he said. "I see this party regenerating itself — not from Washington."

"I don't believe in permanent blue states or red states, I don't believe in flyover states," he added.
