Krauthammer: 'No Way to Blame Democrats' on Obamacare Now
Fox News' "Special Report"

Republicans own healthcare policy under the administration of President Donald Trump — and will be blamed, or lauded, if it fails or succeeds, commentator Charles Krauthammer told Fox News' "Special Report" with Bret Baier.

Krauthammer said one thing is sure: "There is no way to blame the Democrats."

"[It] doesn't matter whether you promised to abolish Obamacare or not," he said. "When the president is sworn in on the oath of office, he owns the economy and the healthcare system – no matter what. Whether you act or you don't, you're going to get the blame. There is no way to blame the Democrats."

Krauthammer also said Trump was right in his initial political analysis of Obamacare.

"He said 'if I wanted to do the easy thing, I wouldn't touch Obamacare. I would let it collapse on its own weight, blame Democrats and move on,'" Krauthammer said. "He's right. . . . I honestly don't see how [Republicans] wind up getting something they can all agree upon."

Republicans warned for years "about exactly what we are watching happen, the unraveling of Obamacare," and "they deserve some credit" for that, he added.

"While Obamacare is unraveling much the way Republicans predicted, they owned it; they ran on it," he said. "They said for seven years we're going to repeal and replace Obamacare. If they don't do that now, it will be a colossal broken promise. And, of course, Republicans will own the fallout."
