Trump: Feds 'Will Not Be Paying for Gov. Brown's Charade'

Trump: Feds 'Will Not Be Paying for Gov. Brown's Charade'

Thursday, 19 April 2018 12:56 PM EDT

President Donald Trump on Thursday seemed to back out of a deal that the feds reached with California Gov. Jerry Brown a day before to send a few hundred of the state's National Guard to the border in a support role.

The governor's office Wednesday released a statement that Brown would, after all, send up to 400 troops to the border but not in any capacity that had to do with immigration enforcement.

That does not seem to be amenable with the president.

It's the latest in a tug-of-war between the Trump administration and California to bolster border security with the National Guard.
