The war of words between President Donald Trump and Democrats intensified Tuesday afternoon, with House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi accusing Trump of using GOP leaders as "props" during an earlier meeting at the White House.

Less than an hour after Trump answered questions from the White House press corps flanked by empty seats and placards bearing the names of Pelosi and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer because they skipped a budget meeting, Pelosi fired off this tweet in response:

Pelosi and Schumer were originally scheduled to attend the meeting, which was held to discuss a spending deal to keep the government funded. They decided to skip it after Trump tweeted earlier Tuesday he did not "see a deal" being made.

In a statement, Pelosi and Schumer said they would meet with House Speaker Paul Ryan and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell to discuss the deal.

Lawmakers must come to an agreement on funding the government by Dec. 8 to prevent a potential government shutdown.
