House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., blasted the Republican tax package, calling it a monster and predicting the legislation will come back to haunt Republicans, according to the Washington Examiner.
"It's a Frankenstein," Pelosi said. "Anybody who's familiar with Frankenstein knows it was a creation, a monster that was created. Do you know the ending of the Mary Shelley's story? The monster comes back to destroy.".
As a result, Pelosi remained confident about Democratic chances of taking back the House in the 2018 midterm elections. And, she said, passage of the GOP's tax plan will play a key role in Democratic victories.
"This is really a big opening," she said. "The door is open. The president's (approval) numbers are in the 30s. I think, probably, his numbers and the support for the tax bill are probably similar."
The Washington Post noted Democrats plan to make the tax legislation the centerpiece of the midterm elections.
But Republicans are optimistic they can show voters that Democrats are misleading them about the legislation.
"If we can't sell this to the American people, we ought to go into another line of work," Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., said after the bill passed.
