President Donald Trump should "focus on the American people" rather than House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and other House Democrats, who likely will continue hammering him with investigations, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich said Friday.
"I think my advice to the president would be really simple," Gingrich told Fox News' America's Newsroom." "Focus on the American people, build support with the American people. Let them coerce the Democrats in the House, but don't pay any attention to Pelosi because she is your mortal enemy."
Part of the issue is that Pelosi "is totally trapped" by Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and other left-wing House Democrats, said Gingrich.
"She represents the Adam Schiff, AOC, Jerry Nadler wing of the party and there's not much (good) wasting time with it," said Gingrich. They want to shoot at Trump as often as they can until they finally get him and they'd like him to be nice while they're doing it," Gingrich said on Fox News' "America's Newsroom."
But they have the "wrong guy," said Gingrich, "because Trump is going to counter-punch every time and as president, he's got a bigger punch than they do."
Now that Trump's impeachment trial has ended in acquittal, some Democrats are talking about subpoenaing former national security adviser John Bolton to testify before the House about Trump and Ukraine. In addition, the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals is considering a case about whether the House can compel former White House counsel Don McGahn to testify and give evidence that could be used for new articles of impeachment.
"This election in 2020 will be a genuine choice between a very radical Democratic Party, and they're virtually all radicals," he added. "There are over 200 radicals in the House...they all vote with AOC and Pelosi. They all co-sponsor bills that are radical. And that is going to be a real fight."
