Mike Pompeo, expected to be confirmed as secretary of state on Thursday, is set to visit Israel next week as part of trip abroad, Axios is reporting.
Pompeo is scheduled to fly to Brussels for a NATO meeting and make Israel one of his stops after that, according to the website.
The Axios story, written by Barak Ravid of Israel’s Channel 10 news, noted Pompeo’s predecessor Rex Tillerson had visited Israel only once when he accompanied President Donald Trump in May 2017.
By comparison, Pompeo has visited Israel three times during his tenure as Trump’s CIA director, Ravid reported.
Pompano is expected to meet with Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu while in Israel.
The Times of Israel reported that Pompeo was the favorite to lead the U.S. delegation to Israel next month for the new embassy opening in Jerusalem. It attributed the information to an Israeli television news report.
