President-elect Donald Trump's administration will have "an orderly transition out of Obamacare," Vice President-elect Mike Pence said Wednesday.

During an interview with CNN, Pence spoke at length about the incoming administration's plans regarding healthcare.

After referencing healthcare premium hikes, Pence said, "Step one is to repeal the taxes and mandates at the very heart of Obamacare. What the president-elect has made clear is that he also wants the Congress at the same time to pass a replacement bill that will lower the cost of health insurance and literally make health insurance affordable for every American."

Pence added the transition from Obamacare to its replacement will be smooth.

"Our commitment is to an orderly transition out of Obamacare," he said. "We don't want anyone to be anxious who has insurance through an exchange or through the process of Obamacare. We don't want people to be concerned they're going to lose that coverage and face hardship for their families."

Some of the goals of Obamacare's replacement include the ability to purchase plans across state lines and to choose particular primary-care doctors.

The replacement plan, Pence said, will make healthcare more affordable than Obamacare.

Pence also addressed what Trump might do on his first day in office, which the president-elect said would be next Monday — three days after his Jan. 20 swearing-in.

"I think you can expect that a President Donald Trump is going to hit the ground running on day one come Monday morning," Pence said. "And the first week there will be a series of executive actions, both putting executive orders into place and repealing some executive orders."
