Vice President Mike Pence's spokesman refuted any suggestion that Pence met with Russian officials at any time during the 2016 campaign.

"The answer is no. The vice president had no meetings with individuals associated with the Russian government during the campaign or the transition," Marc Lotter said on CNN Thursday.

On Wednesday, Lotter avoided giving a direct answer when asked similar questions by Fox News' "America's Newsroom" host Bill Hemmer

"The vice president is not focused on the areas in this campaign, especially things that happened before he was even on the ticket," he told Hemmer.

"As he has said, when he joined the campaign his entire focus was on talking to the American people, taking the case that President Trump was going to make to the American people and doing everything he could to make sure that he and President [Donald] Trump were elected and sent to Washington."

When asked, "Is that a yes or a no, did he or did he not?" Lotter said he was "not aware of anything that I have seen."

In Thursday's interview, Lotter also denied that Pence was aware of Donald Trump Jr.'s meeting with a Russian lawyer, saying that the meeting "happened even before [Pence] was on the ticket."
