In an interview with Newsmax on Saturday, Rep. Mike Collins, R-Ga., discussed his recently introduced Razor Act and its implications for border security. The legislation seeks to use Congress' power of the purse to defund any federal attempt to remove state-erected border barriers.
"As a matter of fact, Congress has every right because we have the power of the purse to defund any effort that the federal government takes up to try to remove that razor wire, and that's exactly what the Razor Act does," Collins explained on "America Right Now."
Collins remarked, "Unfortunately, [it's] an administration that is bent on an America last agenda, pushing this country more and more towards socialism."
The member of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee emphasized the need to address the border crisis, stating, "We just keep handing out bundles of cash to these agencies, and we don't hold them accountable. That's one reason that they're out of control with this overreach."
Speaking on the proposed control of the Texas National Guard by President Joe Biden, Collins dismissed the idea, asserting, "Yeah, I think it's evident just how much worse it would be – that's not constitutional."
Regarding the ongoing Senate negotiations on a new border bill, Collins expressed uncertainty, stating that "no one has any idea" what is in the bill.
However, Collins urged Senate Republicans to reconsider the Secure the Border Act of 2023, legislation passed by the House, and emphasized its potential impact on border security.
"I would suggest that they brush it off. Clean it off. Take a hard look at it. Send it back to us. Pass it over there, and let's get that onto the president's desk and make sure that we get our borders secured down there," he said.
We need to make "sure that people understand that the border's closed. The only point of entry is the point of entry to come across that border," he added.
