Axios/SurveyMonkey: Half of Americans Have Faith in US Democracy

Roughly half of Americans have faith in American democracy, including two-thirds of people who voted for President Donald Trump in 2016, according to the results of a new survey.

Key figures in the Axios/SurveyMonkey poll released Monday:

• 51 percent of Americans have faith in American democracy, compared to 37 percent who have lost faith in it.
• 56 percent of men and 47 percent of women said they have faith in American democracy.
• 68 percent of Americans aged 65 and up said they have faith in American democracy.
• 66 percent of Republicans and 42 percent of Democrats said they have faith in American democracy.
• 67 percent of Trump voters and 43 percent of Hillary Clinton voters said they have faith in American democracy.

According to Axios, 52 percent of American voters had faith in American democracy prior to the 2016 election. That surged to 60 percent after Trump was elected and again after he took office before dropping down in October 2017.
