The effort to draft South Carolina Rep. Trey Gowdy for House speaker has gained the support of Utah Rep. Mia Love.
Gowdy "is the kind of smart fighter our country needs and the American people deserve," Love, who is friends with Gowdy, said.
"It's rising young patriots like freshman member Mia Love who know we need real, reform-minded conservatives to stand up and demand the best leadership possible for Congress," Tea Party Leadership Fund Spokeswoman Katrina Pierson said in an email to supporters. "Rep. Mia Love is the daughter of immigrants from Haiti, and she understands the American Dream as well as anybody, because she's lived it!"
"We say to John Boehner: 'good riddance!'" Pierson wrote. "But now that he is leaving, the American people are desperately looking for leadership to reverse the disastrous course Barack Obama and the Democrats have plunged our country down."
The Tea Party Leadership Fund has
an online petition to try to get Gowdy to run for speaker to replace Ohio Rep. John Boehner, but Gowdy has insisted he has no interest in the position.
He currently chairs the Benghazi select committee.
