Meghan McCain blasted American Conservative Union Chairman Matt Schlapp for excusing the "inexcusable" after suggesting her father, Sen. John McCain deserved to be booed because he cast the deciding vote that nixed an Obamacare repeal bill in the Senate last year.
Schlapp's organization hosts the Conservative Political Action Committee (CPAC) Conference held this past week. During a speech by President Donald Trump to the group on Friday, he expressed his disappointment over McCain's healthcare vote last year. Attendees booed when the Republican Arizona senator's name was mentioned, the Washington Examiner reported Saturday.
On Friday, when a Twitter user asked Schlapp to condemn the booing, his response was "…folks were booing his vote to retain obamacare. That's worth a boo."
Meghan McCain weighed in on Twitter Saturday, slamming Schlapp for his derogatory remark about her father.
"Given what my family is going through right now and what my father has given to this country I would expect better from both you and the crowd, Matt. But please, continue making excuses for the inexcusable," McCain tweeted.
McCain, who was held prisoner for five years during the war in Vietnam, was diagnosed last year with brain cancer and has recently undergone treatments for the disease.
