Rep. Matt Gaetz, R-Fla., and other Republicans are claiming that the violent riots at the Capitol on Wednesday were instigated by members of antifa, and not supporters of President Donald Trump.

“I don’t know if the reports are true, but The Washington Times has just reported some pretty compelling evidence from a facial recognition company that some of the people who breached the Capitol today were not Trump supporters, they were masquerading as Trump supporters, and in fact were members of the violent terrorist group antifa,” Gaetz said on Wednesday night, after Congress resumed its session.

Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin told Fox News that "we don't know who all were the instigators in this of these horrible things that happen today, I think a lot of it is the antifa folks,” saying she had seen “pictures.”

Other notable conservatives, like televangelist Mark Burns and attorney L. Lin Wood, have tweeted pictures of the break-in claiming the people involved were members of antifa, but several news outlets have identified the people in their pictures as known American neo-Nazis or supporters of the QAnon conspiracy theory.
