Rep. Mark Pocan, D-Wis., is taking aim at Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), introducing a bill to abolish the agency.
The Trump administration is misusing the agency, Pocan said Wednesday on "Fox & Friends."
"Instead of going after terrorists, now we’re going after people who get a traffic ticket… that’s a violation of what ICE was about. Unfortunately, the president has so damaged ICE that it can’t function the way it was intended to. And we really need those functions to happen" Pocan said on "Fox & Friends."
Pocan said his bill calls for a commission to look at ICE’s "essential functions" and reassign those duties to other agencies. “I’m going to reassign them to allow them to actually do their important duties and not be the president’s police force," Pocan said on "Fox & Friends."
Pocan said he would introduce the bill in a Monday statement.
"ICE is tearing apart families and ripping at the moral fabric of our nation… unfortunately, President (Donald) Trump and his team of white nationalists, including Stephen Miller, have so misused ICE that the agency can no longer accomplish its goals effectively," Pocan said in the statement.
"The heartless actions of this abused agency do not represent the values of our nation and the U.S. must develop a more humane immigration system, one that treats every person with dignity and respect," the statement said.
