Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla, said there will be problems if the tax bill conference sets a corporate tax rate higher than 20 percent and doesn't include his child tax credit proposal in the legislation, the Washington Examiner reports.
Rubio's comments came in the form a tweet on Friday morning.
Rubio had been shut down in his effort to amend the Senate tax cut bill to set the corporate rate at 20.94 percent in exchange for making the $2,000 child tax credit available to additional low-income families, according to the Examiner.
Although Rubio's amendment failed, he did end up voting for the Senate bill.
The website noted President Donald Trump had suggested he might settle for a rate higher than 20 percent. And there has been speculation Congress could set the rate at 22 percent.
Politico reported both Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., and House Speaker Paul Ryan, R-Wis., are reported to be unhappy Trump indicated he could settle for a higher rate. According to Politico, both believe it undermines the work lawmakers have been doing to get to 20 percent.
