One Fox affiliate broke ranks and refused to run a Sinclair Broadcast Group promotional announcement warning about “fake news.”
TV station WMSN, in Madison, Wis., on Monday tweeted its rationale for washing its hands of a “must-run promo” that created a firestorm after Deadspin posted a 98-second video showing dozens of news anchors reading an identical script.
“WMSN/FOX47 Madison did not air the Sinclair promotional announcement during our 9pm news this weekend. Rather, we stayed true to our commitment to provide our Madison area viewers local news, weather and sports of interest to them,” the station declared.
The Deadspin video provoked a tweet by President Donald Trump supporting the corporation Monday.
Sinclair owns nearly 200 local stations and had ordered its anchors to read a statement expressing concern about "the troubling trend of irresponsible, one-sided news stories plaguing the country."
Some outlets publish these "fake stories" without checking facts first and some people in the media push their own biases, the statement said.
