Rep. Liz Cheney, R-Wyo., said Sunday she’s dead-set against President Donald Trump’s decision to withdraw U.S. troops from Syria and Afghanistan, suggesting it’ll invite another 9/11-type attack on America and will “basically” hand “Syria to the Iranians.”
In an interview on CBS News’ "Face The Nation," the eldest daughter of former Vice President Dick Cheney declared it’s “very important that the president reverses this decision.”
“You've got to remember, we are there because we were attacked,” she said, adding: “We were attacked by al-Qaeda on 9/11, that's why we're in Afghanistan. In Syria, you have Iran, you have ISIS, if we're to withdraw from Syria now, we're basically handing Syria to the Iranians.”
Cheney said, however, she stands with Trump on his demand for money to build a border wall, and urged Democrats to stop “this gamesmanship” that has resulted in a partial shutdown of the government.
“House Republicans stand firmly with the president in doing what is necessary in order to provide the resources” for the border wall, she said.
“We've already done our work on the House side to pass that legislation with Republican votes,” she asserted. “And we need to make sure that the Democrats will come to the table. Nobody wants to see this gamesmanship go on.”
