Lindsey Graham's Top Senate Rival Owes Millions From Failed Company

By    |   Friday, 13 December 2013 04:33 PM EST

State Sen. Lee Bright — U.S. Sen. Lindsey Graham's top opponent in South Carolina's 2014 Senate election — has up to $3.1 million in debt from a failed trucking business, The State newspaper reports.

In personal financial disclosures with the U.S. Senate, Bright, one of four Republicans challenging Graham, revealed he owes from $1.4 million to $3.1 million to 29 creditors of the failed business he founded in 1997.

Bright, a two-term state senator representing Spartanburg, is personally responsible for about $500,000 of the debt, The State said.

He blamed the business failure on federal policies.

Other candidates seeking to topple Graham include businessman Richard Cash, attorney Bill Connor, and public relations executive Nancy Mace.
