The daughter-in-law of President Donald Trump tore into Democrats for the nation’s child separation mess at the U.S.-Mexico border, telling supporters that former President Barack Obama also yanked kids away from their parents.
"What is the only thing you hear when you turn on the television today or open the newspaper today? You hear about people coming into our country illegally, breaking our laws and paying the consequences for it, right?" Lara Trump, wife of the president’s third oldest child, Eric, said Wednesday at a rally of 9,000 supporters in Duluth, Minnesota.
"People are hysterical about it, the media is going crazy about it, but guys, the craziest part is that this has been going on for years and years and years. It happened for eight years under President Barack Obama.
"Where was the hysteria where was the uproar? Where were the Democrats calling him out to do something to change it? Sort of makes you wonder what the heck is going on out there doesn’t it?"
Lara, a former TV producer, added: The Democrats are desperate. They sure as heck don’t know what to do in 2020, do they?"
Hours earlier, the president signed an executive order to stop separating illegal immigrant children from their parents, but insisted "the border is going to be just as tough as it has been." He inked the directive following a growing outcry from both Republicans and Democrats over the practice.
