White House counselor Kellyanne Conway on Thursday attacked as "unfortunate" news reports that special counsel Robert Mueller had impaneled a grand jury in the Russia investigation.
"Grand jury proceedings are supposed to remain private, so it's unfortunate that's not the case here," Conway told Chris Cuomo on CNN.
She then reiterated the statement released by Ty Cobb, President Donald Trump's special counsel, that the White House will "continue to fully comply" with the inquiry.
"The president has said that Jim Comey, the former FBI director, assured him he is not personally a target of any investigation," Conway said.
"We know that these types of endeavors end up being fishing expeditions — and they are broadly cast nets.
"He has no financial dealings with Russia whatsoever."
Trump fired Comey in May, leading to Mueller's appointment by the Justice Department.
