President Donald Trump has nominated an official at the Treasury Department to serve as the agency's deputy secretary.
The White House released a statement Monday saying Justin Muzinich was chosen to serve as the Deputy Secretary of the Treasury, behind Secretary Steven Mnuchin.
A month after Trump took office, Muzinich began serving as counselor to the secretary of the treasury and worked on the tax reform push that passed in December.
Prior to his government work, Muzinich was president of international investment firm Muzinich & Co. and was a Columbia Business School professor.
Muzinich holds degrees from Yale Law School, Harvard Business School, and Harvard College.
The New York Times profiled Muzinich last fall and framed him as one of the key figures in the tax reform effort.
"Justin's leadership and expertise has been essential in advancing tax reform, which has been our administration's top domestic priority," Mnuchin told the Times in a statement.
