The White House has reportedly offered former Utah Gov. Jon Huntsman the job as U.S. ambassador to Russia.
According to Politico, Huntsman — who has served as U.S. ambassador to Singapore and China — is submitting his paperwork required for the job.
Huntsman was critical of President Donald Trump last fall, even calling for him to exit the presidential race, after a tape of Trump making sexually aggressive comments was made public. The pair has, however, warmed up to each other, according to Politico.
Huntsman was U.S. ambassador to Singapore from 1992-1993 under President George H.W. Bush and was U.S. ambassador to China from 2009-2011 under President Barack Obama. From 2005-2009, he served as Utah's governor.
In recent months, Huntsman was mentioned as a potential candidate for secretary of state and deputy secretary of state.
