'Duck Dynasty' Star Stumps for John Warren in SC Gov Race

Republican John Warren, who is running for governor of South Carolina, received support this week from "Duck Dynasty" star Phil Robertson, Greenville News reports.

Robertson, the patriarch of the family at the center of the hit reality series, came "out of the woods" to speak on behalf of Warren, a former Marine running to unseat Republican Gov. Henry McMaster, on Thursday. The 'Duck Dynasty' star has come under fire for his controversial remarks about homosexuality, which led to the show being briefly suspended in 2013 before production ended two years ago, but recently launched a new web series about his family.

He was introduced by state Sen. Tom Corbin and state Rep. Ashley Trantham, both Republicans who announced they were endorsing Warren.

"If I’m in a hole and I’m fighting for my life, I want Jesus on my right and a U.S. Marine on my left," Robertson said on stage at the Marriott in Greenville, where he spoke for about 15 minutes.

"That’s why I’m here. Godly man. Marine. They told me about John Warren, I said get me on the airplane," he said.

Robertson went on to quote from the New Testament about what happens to a country that abandons God.

"They disobey their parents, they are senseless, faithless, ruthless," he said.

Robertson, in addition to his television work, is an elder at the White's Ferry Road Church of Christ in West Monroe, La., where he’s from.

Neither Robertson nor Warren mentioned McMaster, who has President Donald Trump’s support, by name during their remarks.
