Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., said Tuesday that special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation will lead to more charges, The Hill reports.
"I told you months ago that this was a centipede and shoes would drop and I guarantee you more shoes will drop," he told reporters.
On Monday, Mueller brought indictments against Paul Manafort, President Donald Trump's former campaign chairman, his business associate Richard Gates, and former Trump campaign aide George Papadopoulos.
When asked what other "shoes" will "drop," McCain said, "I don't know, but they always have and they always will. I guarantee you this scandal is not over."
The Senate Armed Services Committee Chairman told The Washington Post Tuesday that he "would oppose," any attempt to impede or defang Mueller's investigation. "And so would the American people."
His colleague, Sen. Bob Corker, R-Tenn., added that "there would be an uprising at the Capitol like never seen before if any kind of interference looked like it was taking place. Regardless of which side of the aisle. That's just beyond the pale."
He added that Mueller's investigation was not discussed at the weekly Republican luncheon on Tuesday, and that most members of the GOP don't think Trump will try to interfere in the probe.
"The idea that Bob Mueller is going to have the scope of his inquiry constrained or be otherwise restricted, is really out there," Sen. Susan Collins, R-Maine, told reporters. "I think that's extremely unlikely."
