Arizona Sen. John McCain is holding a December fundraiser in New York City to raise money for a possible sixth term in 2016, reports said Tuesday.
The Arizona Republic said an invitation it viewed schedules the fundraiser for Dec. 16 at the posh St. Regis Hotel "as I consider running for re-election to the U.S. Senate."
"I am grateful for the support you have given to me and my efforts through the years," McCain writes. "I work to do what I think is right for not only the people of Arizona but the people of our great nation. There is no doubt that we live in very challenging times, and every day we see that elections really do have consequences. I vow to continue to do the right thing, not just for my political party and not just against the other political party, but for our country."
Donors will pony up from $1,000 to $5,200 per ticket.
The 2008 Republican presidential nominee announced last month that he was
considering a re-election bid in the same year he'll turn 80, and dismissed worries about a possible tea party primary challenger.
"I wouldn't worry about anything," McCain said after an Oct. 22 town-hall-style meeting in Phoenix, the Arizona Republic noted. "I have a long and steadfast relationship with the people of Arizona that I know I can rely on. I can take on anybody."
McCain was first elected to the House of Representatives in 1982, and won his Senate seat in 1986.
