Ohio Gov. John Kasich on Monday said President Donald Trump was still trying "to find his sea legs," Yahoo News reports.
"To me it's sort of a mixed bag at this point, but I have to root for him the same way I root for the pilot on my airplane," Kasich told Yahoo News Global anchor Katie Couric. "I mean, we want him to do well — it's our country, right?"
Kasich, who refused to support Trump during the election and instead cast a vote for Sen. John McCain, discussed his new book "Two Paths: America Divided or United" and Trump's first 100 days in office.
He said Trump's actions in Syria following the chemical weapons attack carried out by Syrian President Bashar al-Assad on his own people made a difference.
"I went to Munich with John McCain at the security conference and people were confused, 'Is America gone or whatever?' and I think what he did in Syria sent a message and reassured some people that we were not just going to fade away," Kasich said.
"On the other hand, when I see ICE knocking on people's doors and grabbing people out of their homes and saying they're going to deport people who may have come here to avoid a drug cartel and save their children and they were going to ship their mom back, I'm opposed to that."
