Ex-CIA Chief Brennan: Congress Must Block Access to Semiautomatic Weapons

In the aftermath of the murders of 17 people at a South Florida high school, former CIA Director John Brennan is calling for Congress to cut off access to semiautomatic weapons.

Brennan's comments came in a tweet late Thursday night.

Having worked international counterterrorism for much of my career, it is imperative that we devote equal energy and effort to addressing the scourge of gun violence in our country. Congress needs to act now to prevent access to semiautomatic weapons that kill innocents.

Nikolas Cruz, armed with an AR-15 rifle, has been charged with 17 counts of premeditated murder in the aftermath of the tragic shootings at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Fla.

The Hill noted Brennan's tweet follows calls by Democrats for gun control as a result of the school shooting.
