Joe Scarborough, the host of MSNBC's "Morning Joe" noted Thursday that he had made mistakes when discussing presidents hosting military parades, Mediaite reported.
"(President Dwight) Eisenhower did have parades, and he had big military parades, complete with tanks to celebrate his inauguration at the height of the Cold War. So, there is— 50, 60 years ago, this did happen after World War II, after World War I. But it just doesn't happen much anymore. And outside the Cold War era, it does seem to be a bit frightening."
The "Morning Joe" host criticized the Pentagon and lawmakers for considering the parade idea.
"Also, it's hard to listen to the Pentagon and Republicans on Capitol Hill whining about money as much as they do, that we don't have enough money for defense, we don't have enough money to take care of our troops, to do this, to do that. Yet they're talking about spending money on a parade for Donald Trump's vanity," Scarborough said.
Trump, in January, told the Pentagon to put on a large-scale military parade in Washington similar to the one in France on Bastille Day, The Washington Post reported.
Both Republican and Democratic lawmakers weighed in on the idea of a parade in a video compiled by "Morning Joe."
"Confidence is silent and insecurity is loud," Sen. John Kennedy, R-La., said in the video.
The military parade idea also drew criticism from the District of Columbia mayor's office on Wednesday, when it said that the D.C. mayor's office would not pay for it.
