A Republican Super PAC aligned with Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has ceased running television ads in West Virginia for the Senate race there, a potential signal the GOP is giving up hope of flipping the seat currently held by Sen. Joe Manchin, D-W.Va.
According to The Washington Post, the Senate Leadership Fund has spent $7 million since Labor Day to support Republican Patrick Morrisey, West Virginia's attorney general. But TV efforts to back him ended this week and are being replaced with $150,000 in digital advertising and a get-out-the-vote push in the final days of the campaign.
A moderate Democrat who has made attempts to work with President Donald Trump and Republicans, Manchin has been in office since 2010. He most notably voted to confirm Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh last month.
According to the RealClear Politics polling average, Manchin holds a strong lead over Morrisey.
