It's not a surprise that a massive immigrant caravan is headed from Central America to the United States, as President-elect Joe Biden indicated several weeks ago that he was going to reverse immigration changes that President Donald Trump put in place "that served our country well," Rep. Jim Jordan said Tuesday.
"I think this was entirely to be expected, and it is happening and we're seeing it on the southern border," the Ohio Republican told Fox News' Harris Faulkner on "The Faulkner Focus," adding that Americans won't appreciate a sudden influx of migrants, particularly considering the restrictions being faced because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
"If you continue to put all kinds of mandates and keep people from going to church, work, funerals — if that will continue on American citizens but at the same time you are going to allow immigrants to come across the border on the southern border in the caravan, I don't think the American people appreciate that," said Jordan.
Jordan also slammed Rep. Steve Cohen, D-Tenn., for his comments implying that there may be members of the National Guard deployment in Washington, D.C., for the Biden inauguration who "might want to do something" to cause the incoming president harm.
"That's ridiculous," said Jordan. "The idea that you have a member of Congress who has been protected by these folks then say those things just makes no sense."
He also commented on former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's podcast comments, in which she said to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi that she wants to see Trump's phone call records from during the Jan. 6 riot at the Capitol to learn if he had been talking to Russian President Vladimir Putin.
"This obsession with the Russia hoax is just that: obsession," said Jordan. "They tried to remove President Trump from office before he got there and now trying to remove him after he is leaving ... the American people have common sense. They see those comments for what they are. They're ridiculous."
