President Donald Trump's lawyer Jay Sekulow derided former FBI Director James Comey's investigation into Hillary Clinton's private email server as "a fraud" on Thursday.
"The whole investigation evidently was just a fraud on the American people," Sekulow said on Fox News, referring to recent reports that Comey drafted a statement exonerating Clinton early into the probe.
"You've got James Comey now with emails going back and forth where he's drafting three months before they interview 16 key witnesses, including the supposed target of the investigation/exoneration," he continued.
"Evidently, he had already made up his mind three months before the investigation really got underway. So this whole thing was a fraud on the American people."
Sens. Chuck Grassley and Lindsey Graham announced that, according to transcripts from a federal watchdog group, Comey had prepared a statement saying that Clinton was cleared of any wrongdoing in regards to her handling of classified information while the investigation was still underway.
